V6 - Barebone - No Knob

Pro:
- 100% layout + 4 buttons on top right
- All buttons are programmable through VIA
- Well packaged
- High compatibility for the switches
- Hard plastic that can't be bent (so it's a solid/sturdy build)
- Very good price
- Easy to install

Con:
- Plastic (which break a bit the effect of any sound dampening you'll be willing to install as a mod, because plastic by its nature vibrate)
- Weighty (despite being plastic, keep in mind that we're here in the heavy almost very heavy side of keyboards, so if you have to move often keep that in mind)
- Color choice (there's that's NOT a major con, but because of the RETRO nature of this keyboard, I would have loved to have brown or brownish cream color as a barebone)

Summary:
Here I bought the barebone version without the knob for ergonomic reason (and also because I already use a multimedia knob on the side). So I built my keyboard installing SP Magic Girl switches with some PBT Cats keycaps. Which looks really good, but I think it would have looked even better with a retro brown color from the keyboard frame.

Now about the noise, while, keep in mind that here despite being a sturdy and weighty keyboard, this is also plastic keyboard, so if you're in working area with a lot of colleague around, this might not be the keyboard you're searching for. I would instead recommend the metal version of this keyboard (Q6). Because even if you add mods for sound dampening and taking silent switches, it still will resonate because of the nature of vibration work on plastic. That being said, if like me you're using it at home, even for working (which I do use it for), I have no complaint in this regard. But, be aware if you're not alone, you might annoy people around.

Despite the cons that would have normally removed one star, because of the very good price versus what we get, it keeps its 5 stars, so I am fully satisfied! And I totally recommend this keyboard as long you're aware of the cons.

My favorite keyboard!

I have used many different types of keyboards, but the Keychron V6 QMK is so smooth and I absolutely love typing on it.

Brown keys
Very tactile, but not overly loud. Great feedback. It's heavier than I expected, but not a burden (actually helps stop it slipping when not on a desk mat).
This is my first mechanical keyboard, so it would have been nice to have a bit more instruction (IE how to swap out key caps, how to update key mapping).

Note: The screw heads are molded into the case, so they have a very strong grip and won’t fall out.

An Epic Core Inside The Keyboard

A powerful ultra-low-power ARM architecture MCU equipped with 128K Flash will provide more flexibility for developers. The polling rate is 1000 Hz out of the box, which makes latency non-existent for the competitive game.

OSA Profile Double-shot PBT Keycaps

These double-shot PBT keycaps have a similar height to the OEM profile and has an SA-like shape. We named it the OSA (OEM spherical angled) keycap. The PBT keycaps will provide excellent oil resistance, enhance the type feel, and prevent the legends from fading out.

Switch Layouts Between macOS & Windows

Built with the Mac users’ experience in mind while still retaining compatibility for Windows devices, the Keychron V6 comes with a system toggle and an additional set of customized keycaps for both Windows and macOS systems. You can now save two different layouts on the keyboard, one for each system.

Program V6 with QMK & VIA

With full QMK and VIA support, you can easily program and remap each key on the keyboard. The open-source firmware means endless possibilities for keyboard layouts, shortcuts, backlight effects, and more.

Programmable Knob

Designed to enhance your creative workflow, the aluminum rotary encoder allows you to easily customize your favorite keys and macros on the knob through the VIA software.

You can easily customize the V6's knob to your desired key or macro commands such as: zooming in/out, adjusting screen brightness, brush size, volume, selecting video clips or photos, or backlight hue.

Hot-swappable.

The hot-swappable sockets are mounted on the PCB, so you can install or change the switches without soldering. The PCB supports both 3-pin and 5-pin MX mechanical switches.

South-facing RGB LED Lights.

The south-facing RGB LED is designed to better illuminate the keyboard backlight from the typist’s angle with the premium non-shine-through PBT keycaps installed. The south-facing RGB is also free from interference when the users install OEM or Cherry-profile alternative keycaps on the keyboard.

Pre-lubed Keychron K Pro Switch

By optimizing the switch mold, the K Pro switch wobbles less than a standard mechanical switch and feels smoother on each hit. Plus, the factory pre-lubed process on all the K Pro switches (exclude the clicky ones), no doubt this will ensure the best smoothness at your fingertips when typing.

All New Screw In PCB Stabilizers Keychron V6 Custom Mechanical Keyboard

All New Screw-In PCB Stabilizers

The screw-in design increases stability and makes it easier for changes and upgrades. Precise craftsmanship makes the stabilizers more stable and less shaky. The big keys’ (space bar, shift, enter, backspace) typing experience is now more stable and smooth. The Keychron V6 also supports third-party screw-in PCB stabilizers.
